Typically, a flight lasts 45 minutes to an hour depending on weather conditions and available landing sights. The entire balloon experience will last approximately 3 hours which includes inflation, flight, packing up and a champagne toast. Passengers are welcome to participate in the inflation and pack up or simply just watch and enjoy the experience. Balloon rides launch at sunrise or about 2 hours before sunset. During the summer months, flights are offered only in the morning because of the afternoon heat. We offer balloon rides 7 days a week during summer months and on school holidays. When school is in session we offer flights Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday. The flight starts just above the trees and can go as high as 1000-2000 feet above the ground. Once at altitude, you can see Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Pilot Mountain, weather permitting. Flight Information
Weather
Balloon flights are extremely weather dependent. Flights do not occur in winds above 7 mph and/or when there is rain and thunderstorms in the area. We also prefer not to fly in temperatures above 85 degrees. We monitor wind speeds at different altitudes, and all wind speeds must be at a safe speed. Fog/low ceiling is also a factor that could cause a flight to be cancelled. If a flight is canceled due to weather, please understand this is for you safety and our safety and we will work diligently to reschedule you. You will also have the option for your deposit to be refunded.
Keep in mind, we may need to reschedule your flight multiple times due to adverse weather conditions. Patience is the key in fulfilling your dream flight!
Please feel free to contact us (by email/text) anytime during the week of your scheduled flight for a weather update. 24 hours before your flight, we will send you the launch address and the exact time that you will need to meet us. Keep in mind that we will be monitoring weather right up until launch time. This may require us to give you a morning wake up call with our flight decision for sunrise flights. We may need to cancel your flight even while you're traveling to the launch spot or after you arrive. We make every effort to notify you by text/email as quickly as possible, if a flight needs to be cancelled. Please check your texts/emails frequently on the day of your flight and be sure to respond.
Flight Location
We utilize several different launch fields which are all located in the Statesville area. The pilot will be monitoring wind speed and direction before choosing the launch field. We will send you the address of the launch field we will be using the day before your flight.
Health Requirements/weight restrictions
People that fly with us must be able to stand for at least one hour, and be able withstand the force of jumping from the height of a countertop. (Passengers will not be jumping out of the basket, this is just a comparison to how a rough landing may feel) Passengers with bone replacements and broken bones are not recommended to fly and will need to let us know if you have any specific concerns you are worried about. Passengers must have the strength to hold on in the basket in case of a rough landing. We take the health and safety of our passengers very seriously! It is always good to stay hydrated the day of your flight and eat normally. We have had people pass out before and during the flight due to nerves, dehydration, motion sickness. etc. Although, flights in our hot air balloon are very peaceful and calm, this is still an activity with risks. Passengers must be in good health to participate safely. We can NOT fly passengers who are pregnant.
We can fly up to 4 passengers depending on weight. If you have a group of more than four , let us know, and we'll arrange for additional balloons to fly together.
What to wear
We recommend that you dress as you are going on a hike. Cotton clothes and closed toed shoes are recommended. Hiking boots or tennis shoes preferred. Keep in mind that the grass is usually wet during morning flights as we often land in fields which may have tall grass or weeds. There will not be a significant temperature difference during flight because the temperature does not change within the altitude balloon operations occur.
Children
Children over the age of 7 are welcome to fly. We have found that the noise of our burner frightens some children. Children often have trouble standing still through the duration of the flight. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Contact us if you have children planning to fly with you!
Balloon Crew
Hot Air Ballooning is a high participation activity. We may ask you to help us set up and pack up our balloon. The crew chief will give you explicit instructions on ways that you can safely help. This may include, holding the mouth of the balloon during cold air inflation, assisting the crew members in moving the basket/envelope, packing the envelope in the bag, and loading the envelope and bag back into the trailer. Please let us know on the launch field if there is activities that you can not safely help with.

* We require a $150 deposit per passenger to book a ride. If we cancel the ride due to weather,, we will give you the option to reschedule or we will offer you a refund on the deposit. If you need to cancel your flight, please kindly give us 24 hours notice and we will be more than happy to reschedule or return your deposit. Deposits can be paid by paypal, venmo, apple. pay or with a credit card by invoice sent through email. If you fail to show up at the meeting place or arrive 15 minutes late (without letting us know by text or phone call) your deposit will be forfeited. If you arrive at the launch field and decide not to fly or are unable to fly for any reason your deposit will be forfeited and the remaining balance will be due. If you have any medical concerns which you feel may impact your ability to participate safely, please talk to us before booking your flight and/or 48 hours before the flight. We do our very best. to make sure that your flight is 45 minutes long. If flights are cut short due to weather, passenger health or safety concerns the entire payment is required.
All flights include a champagne or sparkling juice toast at the end of the flight. We also offer gift certificates!
We offer static displays and tethered rides for your special events or photography sessions. We also offer advertising opportunities for your business. Would you like to become a balloon pilot? We offer training flights. Please contact us to discuss these options.
Surprises! While it is always fun and exciting to pull off a surprise, please use caution. On occasion, we have had surprise flights booked and the passengers were afraid and refused to fly. Please realize, that we have this slot specifically booked for you and even if your guest does not fly, you will still be required to pay the remaining balance.
